Frequently Asked Questions

1. Custom Bike Orders - Currently we no longer accept Custom Bike Orders.

2. Payments -  Payments can be in the form of certified check, personal check, business check, wire transfer, credit card (MC or Visa for an additional 2.5% fee) or PayPal (for an additional 3% fee). Bikes can be placed on "HOLD" for a period of 4 weeks with a $1,000 USD Deposit. Balance in FULL is required prior to shipping. There may be a "cancellation fee" of not less than 10% of your deposit depending on the amount of extra accessory work performed on your bike.

3. Extended Holds - You can HOLD a bike from our current inventory for purchase for a period up to 3 months with a "non-refundable" deposit in the amount of $500 USD.

4. Local Pickups - We closed our Jacksonville Sales Showroom and Maintenance Facility in 2004 and have consolidated all of maintenance/shipping activity out of our San Martin California operation where we now offer local CA pickups. National Sales is still conducted from Jacksonville Florida. Please call for more information.

5. Colors - Choose from the current Inventory. That is all that are available for now.

6. Paint - We use a high quality Japanese paint from Kansai in a standard four step process - rust preventive, primer, main color and clear coat. A 5th step is required for adding metallic.

7. Parts - We use a great deal of new quality OEM branded parts. See the Parts List for a comprehensive list of the parts used.

8. Shipping - All bikes are shipped directly to you from our new US Warehouse in California by regular FedEx NTL ground delivery and may cost from $300 to $400 depending on the speed and location it is going. See the shipping page for more information. We do not ship internationally.

9. Changes - We will make every effort to accommodate any changes you would like to make to your Vespa order prior to shipment. Any change of course may delay your shipment. The easier the type of change such as seat color or adding whitewalls to your bike order can be done in a relatively short period of time. Others such as paint color or Stainless Steel options are not possible. You might add a front rack or a rear rack if the bike has not been crated or shipped and the accessory is in stock.

10. Crate - Each crate is 72 x 49 x 26 inches. Each crate weighs about 320 pounds (200+ for the scooter alone) and is really dependent on the model selected and all the options ordered. For example: more Stainless Steel options will add more weight. Since shipping costs are based primarily on dimension weight and since we control that overall dimension factor your shipping cost is usually constant. Click here for FedEx Conversions of dimensions and weight.

11. Classical Wheels - Classical Wheels is our factory located in Ho Chi Minh City (formally Saigon) Vietnam. Classic Vespas is the North American Wholesale Distributor for Classical Wheels. They have been producing and refining our products for over 5 years now.

12. Models - We specialize in VBB (mfg. 1960 - 1967), VBC (mfg. 1965 - 1979) and VLB (mfg. 1965 - 1974) models. All of our bikes were originally manufactured by Piaggio in Pontedera, Italy.

13. Engine - All of our restorations come with a new 5-port 150cc engine manufactured buy LML in India. Stock re-built engines are not available.

14. Electric Start Option - Electric start option is not available.

15. Voltage - All of our bikes have been upgraded to a 12 volt CDI electronic ignition system which eliminated the points found in a stock 6 volt system. We find that the bulbs are more readily available and the bike will start quicker and the lights will run brighter which is especially good for night driving.

16. Warranty - We will replace any "New" part that ceases to function properly within 90 days of purchase. Refer to our Parts List to determine if the part in question is new or reconditioned. Labor is not included. We may ask for the inoperative part to be returned to us prior to replacement in case we have to return it to the Vendor.

17. Specifications - We have wiring diagrams for both 6v and 12v plus the serial number ranges for each of the 3 models (VBB, VBC and VLB) that we offer. Click here to review the Vespa Motorscooter Specs List for a VBC model with a stock 150cc engine.

18. Documentation and Manuals - We have complete Parts Manual, Owners Manual and Service Manual for the Vespa Motorscooter we sell. Click here to review the  Documents available to download.

19. Sparkplugs - We recommend the NGK B6HS spark plug for your original 150 cc Vespa engine or B7HS (longer thread) for the new 5-port LML engines.
